Songs

Voice Performance Audition

•Technique demonstration and repertoire performance required

•Full audition guidelines available in the Music Department Handbook

•Scholarship-only auditions: prepare two short contrasting works (one technical, one lyrical)

Additional Materials

Letter of Recommendation

•Required; from your applied voice teacher or large ensemble director

•Submitted automatically after you list the recommender on the application form

Theory Placement Exam

•Required; determines music theory course placement

•Preparatory course available online at the ISU Music Department website

Piano Placement Exam

•Required; determines piano class or private instruction placement

•Required for all music majors regardless of primary instrument

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Three-part entrance audition: voice performance, theory placement exam, and piano placement exam

•Must be accepted to ISU before the Music Department can offer placement or scholarship

•One audition serves for both program admission and scholarship consideration

•Published 2026 on-campus audition dates were December 6, 2025 and March 14, 2026

•Summer auditions may be available upon request, typically in August; email music@isu.edu

Audition Expectations

•Video auditions accepted for students outside Idaho or unable to attend audition days
