Audition Requirements

Songs

TWO ORIGINAL SONGS

•Prepare two original songs that demonstrate your ability to write lyrics and toplines

•At least one song must be performed live, accompanying yourself on guitar, keys, or a self-created backing track

•The second song may also be live, or may be presented as a prepared recording

•Recorded songs may be brought as MP3, USB, SoundCloud, YouTube, Spotify, or similar links/files

Additional Materials

Sheet music (required)

•Bring sheet music / lyric sheets with copies of lyrics for the songs or tracks you present

Creative sample (if applicable)

•Have any MP3, USB, SoundCloud, YouTube, Spotify, or similar files/links prepared in advance

What's The Process

Audition Process

•ICMP invites songwriting-course applicants to a one-to-one audition with a tutor

•Complete the application before ICMP can make a formal offer, regardless of audition outcome

•Undergraduate songwriting auditions are generally 30 minutes long

•Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled audition

•Remote auditions may be available when an in-person audition is not practical; online auditions are primarily for international applicants

Audition Expectations

•Be ready to discuss the songs or tracks you present

•Discussion may cover creation, development, production, influences, goals, and how the course can help develop your craft

•Test any MP3, USB, SoundCloud, YouTube, Spotify, or similar links before the audition
