Prescreen Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Two Contrasting Musical Theatre Songs

One ballad and one up-tempo

One written before 1965 and one after 1965

Your choice which is the ballad or up-tempo

Both songs in English

Must sing to musical accompaniment (live or pre-recorded)

No a cappella

60-90 seconds each (time includes slate)

Slate at beginning: your name, song title, and musical title

Filmed in 3/4 shot (head to knees)

Monologues

One Contemporary Monologue

Written after 1900, in English

From a published play or musical

Not from a TV show or movie

60-90 seconds (time includes slate)

Slate at beginning: your name, play title, character name, and playwright

Filmed in close-up (head to chest)

Dance

60-Second Jazz Dance Combination

Choreography should be story-driven and connected to the music

Use steps and physical vocabulary you are familiar with and can execute well

May be self-choreographed but must be a solo

Can include a show, competition, or performance clip if you are clearly featured alone

Must be performed to music (no a cappella)

Video Format

Filmed in full body shot (entire body in frame at all times)

No slate required for dance footage

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Applications for September 2026 are closed.

September 2027 applications and audition dates will be published when the next cycle opens.

Submit the IAB application, then pay the €50 application fee before an audition can be booked.

The current Musical Theatre audition guide is for September 2026 and is explicitly subject to change for September 2027.

Program Requirements

The programme requires IELTS 6.0 or equivalent and academic qualifications equivalent to 104 UK Tariff points or 24 IB points.

Applicants may audition before completing those conditions; successful applicants can receive a conditional offer.

What's The Process

Prescreen

Submit video audition after application

Upload videos to YouTube as an unlisted playlist

Submit one playlist link to apply@iabarcelona.es

Each piece uploaded as a separate video (no continuous recordings)

Ensure adequate lighting with light source behind the camera

Callback

Invited applicants attend live audition (on-campus, in-person, or live online via Zoom)

Ballet and jazz masterclass, individual songs and monologue, one-to-one interview

Bring sheet music in the correct key, in a folder with no loose pages (in-person only)

Wear dancewear for dance elements and formal audition clothes for acting/singing

Outcome communicated within 4 weeks of second stage

Scholarship Info

Scholarships

Limited number of scholarships awarded annually to new students

Faculty-selected based on artistic potential (cannot be applied for)

Constitutes a reduction in fees, not a full waiver

Financial Aid

Small grant toward tuition fees available upon request after receiving an offer

Requires separate application with supporting evidence

Must be submitted before paying the registration fee
