Audition Requirements

Dance

Dance Audition, 10 Min Max

Required for admission as a dance major; dance minors are not required to audition

Submit a studio/performance video showcasing your training

If you train in multiple techniques or dance forms, showcase as many as you feel comfortable with

No in-person auditions are held — the audition is submitted through the online portal

Additional Materials

Headshot

Submit one headshot

Recommendation Letter

Submit one letter of recommendation; a recommender from the professional dance field is preferred

Essay

Submit a one-page response about what interests and excites you about Hope's dance program

Studio/Performance Video

Submit a video no longer than 10 minutes showing studio and performance training

Personal Response Video

Answer the three department prompts about Hope Dance, your personal strengths, and one area for improvement

Application Logistics

Standard university application is required for admission

Dance major applicants must also submit an online audition application through the portal; dance minors do not need to audition to take dance classes

Video submissions are uploaded through Hope's online audition portal

Enrollment

Applicants must audition to be admitted as a Dance Performance and Choreography major

DAA recipients do not need to major or minor in dance

DAA recipients must maintain a 2.6 GPA, take at least two dance classes each semester, and participate in at least one dance performance annually

Audition Process

Audition required for admission as a BA Dance Performance and Choreography major; dance minors are not required to audition

Audition is submitted through Hope's online portal — there are no in-person auditions

Students who audition by the DAA scholarship deadline are automatically considered for a dance scholarship

Dance minors who want to be considered for a DAA scholarship must also audition through the portal

Dance Day is a campus visit and master-class event, not the audition itself

Decisions

Dance major applicants are informed of their acceptance on a rolling basis

DAA scholarship applicants are notified by mid-March

Distinguished Artist Award (Daa)

$3,000 per year ($12,000 over four years)

$48,000 distributed annually across all dance DAA recipients

Open to incoming first-year and transfer students

Requirements

Must maintain 2.6 GPA

Enroll in minimum two dance classes per semester

Participate in at least one dance performance annually

Major/minor requirement is waived for DAA recipients
