Scholarship Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Dance

Optional Placement/Scholarship Audition

BA Dance does not require an audition for admission

Audition is recommended for technique placement and dance scholarship consideration

In-person audition includes ballet followed by modern technique classes

Selected scholarship candidates may be asked to present a short solo, no longer than 1-2 minutes

Video Submission Option

Ballet barre work, exercises on one side only

Ballet center work such as adagio, pirouette combination, and petite allegro combination

Modern/contemporary phrase that travels, includes floor work, returns to standing, and includes jumps

Solo, 1-2 minutes, preferably modern or contemporary; identify the choreographer if not self-choreographed

Additional Materials

List prior dance experience, types of training, teachers, schools attended, years studied, and classes per week

Photograph

For in-person auditions, bring an 8x10 photograph, preferably full-length in dance attire

Print name, address, and telephone number on the back

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition required for BA Dance admission — students may declare the BA Dance major as soon as they are notified of academic acceptance

An audition (in-person or video submission) is strongly encouraged for class placement and scholarship consideration

In-person auditions held on Hofstra's South Campus at Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, Room 209

Video submissions also accepted for placement and scholarship consideration

A personal interview with a member of the dance faculty is recommended prior to registration as a major

Scholarship Info

Dance Grant-in-Aid awards $500-$5,000/year, renewable. Based on potential as dancer and contribution to program. In addition to university scholarships. Audition recommended for class placement and scholarship consideration.
