Scholarship Audition Requirements

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Repertoire List (Scholarship Audition)

Strings: two contrasting prepared excerpts or pieces — one lyrical and expressive, one technical and staccato

Voice: two contrasting solo songs; contrast may come from language, period, or classical/art-song versus musical-theatre style

Woodwinds and brass: two contrasting excerpts or pieces — one slow and lyrical, one fast and technical

Percussion: three selections covering snare, mallets, and timpani

Piano: two contrasting prepared pieces; memorization is not required

Sheet Music

Video applicants submit a PDF of the music performed; voice applicants bring at least two photocopies of each song, plus a personal copy if needed

What's The Process

Scholarship Audition

No audition is required for admission to the BA Music major

Music scholarships are optional and available to incoming students regardless of major

Senior applicants indicate scholarship interest in the Hendrix application, then schedule an on-campus audition or submit a recording within 30 days of completing the application

Audition scheduling details are provided after the scholarship request is submitted

Sight-reading is part of the strings, voice, woodwind/brass, and percussion auditions

Video Audition

Submit an unlisted YouTube link through the video audition form provided by Hendrix

Introduce each selection and its composer

Complete a Teams meeting with music faculty after the video submission

Faculty may ask applicants to sight-read or perform scales during the meeting

Scholarship Info

Music scholarships provide $1,000–$2,000 per year plus half-price private lessons

Awards are open to incoming students regardless of major and may be combined with most other Hendrix scholarships

Renewal requires participation in the appropriate ensemble and private lessons each semester
