Audition Requirements

Dance

Live Audition Class

2-hour class incorporating classical ballet and pointe work (if applicable)

1-hour class in modern and improvisational work

Modern phrases emphasizing torso movement and articulation, falling into/rising out of floor

Solo

Solo of choice, preferably Ballet, Modern, or Contemporary dance — no longer than 3 minutes

An improvisation (max 3 minutes) may be presented in lieu of a solo

Be prepared to perform the solo if the panel requests additional work

Attire

Solid light-colored tights, solid colored leotard

Ballet and pointe shoes (if applicable); bare feet for modern

All dance attire must be close fitting

Hair secured away from face and neck

Application Logistics

Submit the University of Hartford application before audition registration

Recorded audition videos may be uploaded through the UHart Applicant Portal or through Acceptd

Hartt Early Action is available for this program; submit the Hartt application by Nov. 1 and all application materials by Nov. 15

University application review begins on a rolling basis in late September; Hartt applications submitted after Feb. 15 are considered only as space allows

Early Action is optional for this program. Regular Decision applicants also receive portal and audition/interview registration instructions after submitting the UHart application.

FAFSA priority deadline: Feb. 15 — financial-aid filing date, not an admission cutoff

Audition Process

Upload videos to UHart Applicant Portal or through Acceptd

No stage performance videos accepted

Audition Expectations

Dance auditions held on campus and in select cities — recorded auditions also accepted

Each applicant interviews with a dance division faculty member

Assessment based on technical proficiency, physicality, creativity, receptivity, and authenticity of movement expression

Scholarship Info

Performing Arts Scholarship: All accepted students automatically considered based on audition; awards range up to full tuition

Renewable annually for the length of the program with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA (or 3.0 in major) and full-time status

No separate scholarship application required
