Scholarship Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Placement Exams

Admitted music majors complete a music fundamentals (theory) placement exam and a piano skills assessment — for course placement only, not admission

Accompaniment

Harding provides a staff accompanist free of charge on request; submit copies of your music three weeks in advance and bring the original to the audition

Primary music-major audition date is Saturday, March 14, 2026

Instrumental applicants (winds, strings, percussion): prepare two works of contrasting nature, or two contrasting movements from a solo concerto or sonata, at the difficulty of a standard piece from your home-state solo list

A brief sight-reading check (solfège or any method) and a visit with faculty about your background and career plans are part of the audition

Digital recordings and online interviews may be arranged if travel is not possible

Submit the Harding University admission application before auditioning for scholarship

Music Scholarships

Departmental scholarships are awarded based on performance ability, academic record, and professional promise

Four-year contracts require academic progress and full ensemble participation; music majors must continue pursuing a music degree

Music scholarship awards may combine with other aid up to the cost of full tuition

Most scholarships will be awarded by April 1, 2026
