One contemporary speech from a published play written since 2000, up to 2 minutes

One classical speech, preferably Shakespeare, up to 2 minutes

Eligibility

Typical offer: CCC at A-level or equivalent

GCSE English Language grade 4 (C) minimum

IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, including 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in each other element

Exceptional talent may override academic requirements

First round: GBP 15 (non-refundable)

Recall workshop: additional GBP 30

Fee waivers available for eligible home students

What's The Process

Audition Process

First round is a video self-tape submitted after applying via UCAS

Submit two speeches plus a creative response to a GSA-provided source image

Full guidance is sent by email upon application

Audition Expectations

Invited applicants attend a recall audition workshop

Workshop includes acting and movement sessions

Candidates may use first-round audition material during recall

University of Surrey lists an interview as part of selection; the public GSA requirements page does not publish a separate interview format

Gsa Scholarships

Shining Star Scholarship: £3,000/year for 3 years — for underrepresented students

Ella Balinska Scholarship: £2,000 — for first-year BA Acting students from the Global Majority

South Square Trust Scholarship: £5,000/year (may extend to 2nd year) — assessed on merit and need

Jill James Bursary: £2,000/year for 3 years — for students from areas of high deprivation

Doris & Hilda Farmer Charitable Trust Bursary: £1,000

Mary Woolfe Charitable Trust Bursary: £1,000

University Support

University of Surrey Bursary: up to £3,000 for eligible students
