MOVEMENT CLASS
•Warm-up and movement phrases from modern, jazz, and ballet
•Faculty evaluates alignment, movement application, dynamics, and artistry
SOLO PERFORMANCE
•1-2 minute solo piece in style(s) of your choice
•Showcase your strengths in movement and artistry
IMPROVISATION
•Creative practice and improvisation session
ATTIRE
•Any dance attire allowing alignment and body placement to be clearly seen
-Examples: leggings, tights, tank tops, leotards
FOOTWEAR
•Bare feet for warm-up and modern
•Jazz shoes (preferred) or socks for jazz portion
•Soft ballet shoes for ballet portion
APPLICATION PROCESS
•Complete the online Dance Program Application to select audition date
•University application also required (Common App or GVSU portal)
•Students encouraged to audition early — scholarships are limited
ENTRY TIMING
•November audition: Winter 2026 or Fall 2026 entry
•All other audition dates: Fall 2026 entry only
SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION
•Concludes with March 20 audition date
•Audition early for best scholarship opportunity
AUDITION DAY SCHEDULE
•9:00-10:25 AM: Movement class (modern, jazz, ballet)
•10:30-11:55 AM: Improvisation and solo showings
•12:00-1:00 PM: Lunch
•1:00-2:50 PM: Individual interviews and observe Dance Company rehearsal
•3:00-4:00 PM: Information meeting (Q&A for students and families)
VIRTUAL OPTION
•Available upon request for students unable to attend in person

RESULTS
•Results within two weeks of audition (requires GVSU acceptance)
•Outcomes: accepted as major, accepted as minor, or declined
•Declined students welcome to reaudition

DANCE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
•All accepted dance majors automatically considered
•Awards typically made in spring after most auditions complete
•Scholarships cover a portion of tuition (not full tuition)
•Renewable for sophomore, junior, and senior years if GPA and dance enrollment maintained
•Additional academic and need-based scholarships available through GVSU Financial Aid
