Scholarship Audition Options
•Choose one: in-person campus audition, video submission, or Dancewave
•In-person audition is Sunday, February 8, 2026
•Video audition submissions are due Wednesday, January 28, 2026
•Dancewave auditionees do not need to re-audition, but must apply to Goucher and complete the Dance Scholarship Application
In-Person Audition
•Participate in brief technique classes: ballet, modern, and West African
•Prepare a solo of 1.5 minutes or less in any dance style or genre that best shows artistic qualities and performance skills
•Choreography may be original or by another person
•Bring a digital recording of solo music on a phone or similar device
•Dance solos and interviews are scheduled in the afternoon
Video Audition
•Submit one audition video no longer than 10 minutes
•Upload to YouTube or Vimeo as an unlisted video
•Save the video as Yourlastname_DanceAudition and email the link to goucherdance@goucher.edu by the deadline
•Camera should record barre movement from the side and center movement from the front
•Keep the dancer's entire body visible whenever possible
Video Content
•Begin with interview responses: name, what you would change in your world and how dance could help, and college goals/how Goucher Dance supports them
•Include ballet technique: barre excerpts, center adagio, petit allegro, and grand allegro
•Include modern technique: center combination plus a traveling combination through space
•Include a West African or African Diasporic movement phrase, such as Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Afrobeats, or Afropop
•End with a solo no longer than 1.5 minutes
