Audition Requirement

Entrance to the BFA in Dance is by audition

Audition applications are submitted through SlideRoom after the university application is on file

Applicants should follow the School of Dance audition application when it opens for the target academic year

Additional Materials

Essay / Statement

Required: Choose one prompt and submit a 200–250 word response about interests beyond dance, a favorite choreographer, or a memorable choreographic process.

Headshot

Required: Upload a recent headshot.

Dance Video

Required before a live audition: Provide a link to a two-minute modern/contemporary solo or performance dance video.

SlideRoom may be submitted before the dance video link is added, but the link must be emailed to dance@gmu.edu at least 10 days before the live audition.

Application Logistics

Apply to George Mason first; a Mason G number is required before submitting the Dance SlideRoom application

The current 2027 SlideRoom form lists a $40 fee and a July 1, 2027 final deadline

Early Action and scholarship consideration: November 1, 2026

Regular Decision: February 1, 2027

Transfer priority: March 1, 2027

The 2027 SlideRoom form is open and accepting submissions (confirmed 2026-08-26)

Transfer Pathway

Mason publishes a VCCS transfer guide for the BFA in Dance with course equivalencies. Transfer applicants must also pass the School of Dance audition.

Audition Process

Apply to George Mason University first; the university application must be on file before the Dance audition application

Allow 48-72 hours for George Mason to generate the G number needed for the audition application

Complete the School of Dance audition application through SlideRoom when the application opens

Dance Talent Scholarships

Dance Partnership Council funds one to two scholarships each year for incoming freshmen who demonstrate outstanding talent at audition

To be considered, apply to George Mason by November 1 and audition for the upcoming academic year
