Audition Requirements

Songs

Requirements

•Two memorized selections in contrasting styles

•One selection must be in a foreign language

•One selection must be in English

•One music theater piece is permissible

•Suggested repertoire: Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias, or the First or Second Book of Solos compiled by Joan Boytim

•No pop songs or unaccompanied selections are allowed

Accompaniment

•Live accompaniment for in-person auditions

•Taped accompaniment is permissible for video submissions

Aural Skills

•Aural and sight-singing skills will be tested, and an interview conducted

Application Logistics

•Apply to the university via Common App or Georgia Southern direct portal

•Separately apply to the department via the music application form

Placement

•Admitted students take a music theory diagnostic exam for course placement only, not admission

What's The Process

Audition & Interview

•Perform a principal-instrument entrance audition (see your instrument's requirements)

•Choral-emphasis applicants audition on voice; instrumental-emphasis applicants audition on their primary instrument

•A teaching-disposition interview is part of the admission process

•Live audition on the Statesboro campus, or submit a video audition

•Entrance audition also serves as the scholarship audition

Gretsch School Scholarships

•Scholarships available for new music majors based on audition/interview results and academic qualifications

•Carol A. Carter scholarships for new students are renewable for four years

•Must audition by February 27, 2027 to be considered for scholarship

•Continuing student scholarships based on performance and academic excellence via endowment program
