Training
•Bullet: 18 credit-hour minor comprising the prerequisite coursework for the Master of Arts in Teaching: Music Education program, completed through one of three focus blocks — Choral, Elementary, or Instrumental
•Bullet: Required course MUED 3800 Introduction to Music Education (2 credit hours) plus two Techniques courses (6 credit hours) chosen from Elementary, Secondary Choral, Secondary Instrumental, or Middle School methods and practicum
•Bullet: Each 10-credit-hour focus block spans certification areas in the field — the Instrumental block pairs vocal, woodwind, brass, percussion, and string methods with instrumental conducting and marching band techniques; the Choral block pairs piano, diction, and choral literature/conducting with vocal pedagogy; the Elementary block pairs guitar, world music curricula, and instrumental/choral arranging with vocal pedagogy
•Bullet: Students who complete the BA in Music along with this minor can move directly into the MAT: Music Education degree for initial teacher certification, teaching Georgia-regulated music courses in grades P-12
•Bullet: As a Music Department minor, prospective students must pass the entrance audition required of all incoming music majors and minors before beginning minor coursework
