Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Dance Audition

Entrance requires an audition in ballet and jazz plus an interview.

Applicants need intermediate-level classical ballet training with pointe work, plus experience in other dance forms.

Video Submission

Include barre work: plies, tendues, degages, fondue, rond de jambe and adage.

Include centre work such as adage and grand battements.

Include a short jazz or contemporary combination of about 30 seconds.

Include pointe work if you wish to take pointe classes in the program.

Ballet

Ballet Background

Minimum intermediate-level classical ballet training, usually 5-7 years.

Pointe work is required for admission consideration.

Classical Stream applicants should expect more advanced ballet and pointe training.

Bring a dance resume to an in-person audition or attach it as a PDF to a video-audition email

Dance Photo (Required)

Submit an essay of no more than one page explaining why you wish to join the George Brown program

Pay the $60 audition fee once per audition, not once per program

Application Logistics

Apply through Ontario Colleges or the George Brown Polytechnic international application system before registering for the dance audition.

George Brown says your application must be accepted before you are given an audition date.

Important Notes

The current dance audition page lists a 60 CAD audition fee paid in advance; Jorgen Dance says the fee is paid once per audition, not per program.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Entrance into George Brown Dance programs is by audition only.

Current George Brown guidance says audition requests are being accepted through video submissions; Jorgen Dance also lists in-person, video, and Zoom audition options.

Auditions are dance classes and/or taught choreography, so registrants do not need to prepare their own audition material for live auditions.

Audition Expectations

Bring or submit a dance resume, headshot and dance photo.

George Brown Dance auditions require a short essay.

A short interview may be conducted after the audition.
