Training

•The BA develops technique across ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip-hop through five levels of dance study, while also building skills in choreography, production planning, teaching, dance history, kinesiology, somatics and technology.

•Master classes and guest-artist intensives complement studio instruction and creative collaboration.

Performance & Productions

•Students can perform in the Winter and Spring Dance Concerts, GCU Elementary Dance Tour and Student Spotlight Dance Concerts. The curriculum prepares dancers to work both onstage and behind the scenes while developing a broad liberal-arts foundation.

Scholarship Audition Requirements

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Dance

In-Person Audition

•Complete a combined class in ballet, modern and jazz techniques

•Perform a one- to two-minute solo highlighting your strongest technical and performance abilities

-Solo may use ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, tap or another style

Recorded Video Audition

•Five minutes of ballet barre

•Five minutes of classroom studies in modern or jazz, such as center work, progressions or floor work

•One- to two-minute solo highlighting your strongest technical and performance abilities

Additional Materials

Essay

•Maximum two pages in APA or MLA format

•Explain what brought you to dance and why you chose a dance degree

•Describe your academic, artistic and professional goals and how GCU will help you reach them

•Describe interests, skills and talents outside dance that you will bring to the program

Headshot

•One 8-by-10-inch color or black-and-white headshot; matte or glossy

Resume

•Detail performance experience and dance training, including genres studied, schools, studios and conferences

Letters of Recommendation (Optional)

•Teachers or other references may discuss your academic or artistic performance
