Scholarship Audition
•Bullet: Honors Music Scholarship audition is for scholarship consideration only
•Bullet: Audition is not required for program admission
•Bullet: Audition is performed on the applicant's primary applied instrument or voice
•Bullet: Repertoire and technical requirements differ by applied area (voice, band/orchestra, piano, guitar, organ)
Repertoire by Applied Area
•Bullet: Voice: two contrasting selections — one aria, art song, or classical musical theater selection, and one art song in English; both memorized
•Bullet: Band/Orchestra: two contrasting works (sonata, concerto movement, or Grade 5-6 contest solo); major, minor, and chromatic scales; percussionists prepare a contest solo plus snare rudiments and mallet scales
•Bullet: Piano: two contrasting pieces from different periods (at least one memorized); major and minor scales with arpeggios plus a chromatic scale
•Bullet: Guitar: two contrasting pieces from different periods (at least one memorized); two major scales and an arpeggio study (Giuliani, Sor, Carcassi, or Carulli)
•Bullet: Organ: a work of J.S. Bach, a Romantic or 20th/21st-century work, and a hymn; major and minor scales with arpeggios plus a chromatic scale
Audition Format
•Bullet: Auditions held in O. Max Gardner Hall
•Bullet: Total audition time is roughly one hour
◦Sub-bullet: 30 minutes to warm up and/or rehearse with the staff accompanist
◦Sub-bullet: 30 minutes for the audition
•Bullet: Video audition accepted for those living a great distance away (must arrange with the Department of Music)
Additional Audition Elements
•Bullet: Sight-reading and pitch-matching included (vocalizing added for voice)
