Dance

TWO CONTRASTING DANCE PIECES, 60-90 sec each

DANCE 1: SOLO DANCE

Any style that shows off your dance and movement abilities (jazz, ballet, modern, African, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary — no tap)
Choreography should be story-driven and connected to the music

DANCE 2: BALLET

Execute a brief series of plié, tendu, and grande battement
Pirouette en déhors (to both sides)
Grand jeté across the floor
Ballet

BALLET COMBINATION

Execute a brief series of plié, tendu, and grande battement
Pirouette en déhors (to both sides)

Wildcard / Special Skill (Optional)

This can be anything that lets us get to know you a little better. It can be sharing something you love to do like cooking or a craft, or demonstrating a special skill like juggling, tennis, a magic act, or an instrument. Be creative and have fun. 60-90 seconds.

Submission Specifications
All songs, monologue, dance, ballet, and wild card videos are recommended to be between 60-90 seconds each
A little bit over or under is fine
Each piece should be filmed/uploaded as a separate piece of media — no continuous videos

WRITTEN STATEMENT

Music Theatre Future/Career Goals: A SHORT STATEMENT describing your professional goals and your desire to major in Music Theatre (650 words max)

SLATE

You may either do a separate SLATE video introducing yourself OR slate your name and songs/monologues at the start of each video

Good to Know

Must complete Florida State University Application first, then Music Theatre Supplemental Application will be added to Application Checklist within 1-2 hours

What's The Process

PRESCREEN:

Submissions reviewed on rolling basis beginning November 1
Final deadline is December 1

CALLBACK:

Initial callbacks conducted via Zoom in January
Applicants emailed video of two dance combinations to learn, record, and upload
Perform two prepared contrasting musical selections with piano or instrumental track
Perform prepared 60-second monologue within casting range

FINAL CALLBACK:

Students under final consideration invited to campus for live audition and dance workshop
Accompanist provided free of charge for on-campus auditions

Scholarship Info
