Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Prepare two contrasting works differing in style and tempo, not more than 10 minutes total

Percussionists should prepare three selections: snare, timpani, and mallets

Sheet Music

Accompanist for instrumental auditions is optional; if you require one, send a copy of the music to the Department Chair (music@frostburg.edu) at least 1 week before your in-person audition

Scholarship Auditions

Music scholarship applications and materials must be received at least 1 week before the audition date

Complete the university scholarship application separately for scholarship eligibility

Serious conflicts with scholarship audition dates may be handled by virtual audition or video submission

What's The Process

Audition Process

University admission is required before acceptance as a Music major

Audition in your chosen performing area and declare an area of study at the audition

Auditions may be scheduled throughout the year for major admission

Virtual auditions and video submissions are accepted

Music scholarship auditions also count as the major acceptance audition

Audition Expectations

Applicants are expected to match a single pitch and short pitch sequences

A brief music theory diagnostic exam is administered before the audition

Students may receive conditional status based on proficiency

Memorization of audition repertoire is encouraged but not required

A staff accompanist is provided for vocal auditions

Instrumental accompanist is optional

Guitarists using electric guitar should bring a 1/4-inch jack adapter cord

Music Scholarships

Audition on designated scholarship dates for consideration

Scholarship auditions also serve as auditions for acceptance into the Music major

Most Music Department scholarships are awarded to declared music majors

Music scholarship awards vary from $250 to $1,000; the Talent in the Arts/Leadership Award may range from $1,000 to $3,000

Scholarship criteria may include performance ability, GPA, progress in the academic program, departmental service, and university/community involvement

To be considered for a music scholarship, you must have applied to and been accepted as a full-time student at FSU with a declared major in Music; submit your FSU acceptance letter with the scholarship materials
