Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Organists prepare a work by J. S. Bach, such as a prelude and fugue, chorale prelude, or trio sonata movement

Prepare one contrasting composition written after 1800

Pianists auditioning for organ may prepare a J. S. Bach work from the Well-Tempered Clavier and the first or last movement of a classical sonata by Beethoven or Mozart

Supplementary Music Form (Required)

What's The Process

Audition Process

University admission and Sacred Music program admission are separate

Apply to the university first, then complete the audition process simultaneously

Auditions are by appointment with Dr. Jessica Ewell (jewell@franciscan.edu)

On-campus audition required for applicants within 250 miles of campus

Applicants beyond 250 miles may submit high-quality unedited recordings

On-campus auditions are highly recommended for all applicants

Audition Expectations

Applicants are tested for general musical abilities at the audition

Pianists may audition for organ on piano

Memorization is encouraged but not required

Piano entrants are expected to reach intermediate organ facility by the sophomore jury and professional ability by the senior recital
