Prescreen Requirements
Monologues
ONE MONOLOGUE, 90 sec max
•Either classical or contemporary
•Must be from published full-length plays (no monologue books)
•English translation required if performing in another language
•SLATE with name, location, name of play, and character
MATERIAL SELECTION
•Choose material you're passionate about — your choice reveals what work draws you
•Acceptable to play against how you currently identify (age, gender, etc.)
•Avoid using a dialect — they want to hear your natural voice
•Embody the scene with as much movement and physicality as possible
•No costumes or props needed

PERSONAL STORY SELF-TAPE, 2 min max (required)
•Share an experience or story reflecting your personal experience
•Can be: funny anecdote, overcoming a challenge, personal memory, relationship to photo/object
•Be creative and expressive — what makes you unique?
•Stories about life outside of theatre preferred
•Can reference written notes but speak authentically
•Due to volume, panelists will only view the first two minutes
Callback Requirements
Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 90 sec each
•One may be the same as your prescreen submission
•Second must be a CONTRASTING monologue
-Examples of contrast: comic/dramatic, contemporary/classic
•Must be from published full-length plays
•You will NOT be asked to perform your personal story from prescreen
•Faculty may work with you on only one monologue
-Purpose is to see how well you listen, receive, and play

PRESCREEN
•Submit materials via the Fordham Online Applicant Portal
-Apply to Fordham first, then receive portal credentials via email (2-3 days)
-Upload materials under "Portfolio or Materials" section
•Materials reviewed on a rolling basis
•December callback applicants notified by November 17, 2025
•All other first-year applicants notified by December 1, 2025
•Transfer applicants notified by December 12, 2025
LIVE AUDITION
•Invitation-only callback — in-person strongly encouraged
•Virtual or video audition available by request (contact theatre@fordham.edu)
•Auditions begin at 10:00 AM with appointments every few minutes
•Be early — plan to be available 30-45 minutes
•Student Ambassador tours available while waiting
•Optional Q&A session at 1:00 PM each audition day (45 minutes)
