Prescreen Requirements

Monologues

TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 60-90 sec each (includes slate)

One DRAMATIC monologue (classical or contemporary, student's choice)
One COMEDIC monologue (classical or contemporary, student's choice)
At least one monologue must be contemporary (written after 1900)
Do not submit two classical monologues

MATERIAL SELECTION

Must be from a published play or monologue collection
No monologues from musicals, television shows, or movies

VIDEO FORMAT

Each monologue uploaded as a separate file
Filmed full body (head to feet) or close-up (head to chest)
Slate at the beginning of each piece: your name, character name, playwright, and title of play
Wildcard / Special Skill (Optional)

WILD CARD (optional, 60 sec max)

Can be anything: a special skill, interesting story, passion speech, instrument you play, etc.
No slate required for wild card media
Prompt: "What do you want us to know about you?" and "What makes you unique?"
Additional Materials

SLATE VIDEO

No separate slate video required
Slate at the beginning of each piece, included in the time allotment

APPLICATION PROCESS

Apply to Florida Southern College via Common App or FSC Preferred App (no application fee)
Register for prescreen via the theatre auditions page
No separate audition portal required

ELIGIBILITY

BFA audition candidates automatically considered for scholarship eligibility

BA ALTERNATIVE

Students not admitted to the BFA may consider the BA Theatre Arts program, which does not require an audition

What's The Process

PRESCREEN

Upload each piece as a separate file (no continuous videos)
Standard recording devices acceptable (smartphones, tablets, etc.)
Applicants notified via email of prescreen outcome by notification date

LIVE AUDITION

Invited candidates audition on-site at Lakeland campus or via virtual session
FSC also auditions at Florida Theatre Conference and Florida Combined Auditions
Students must have applied to FSC but do not need an admission decision to register for prescreen
