Horn: two contrasting selections demonstrating lyricism and technical dexterity

Trumpet: two contrasting selections demonstrating lyricism and technical dexterity; jazz improvisation may be included as the applicant is able

Trombone, euphonium, and tuba: two contrasting selections demonstrating lyricism and technical dexterity

Scales & Technique

Chromatic scale plus two major scales, ascending and descending across the full range of the instrument

All music majors with scholarships must be enrolled in a major ensemble in their applied area throughout the program of study

Theory Placement

Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement diagnostic at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

Audition Expectations

Audition in your applied music area (instrument or voice)

Auditions are offered throughout the year on an appointment basis

Must have applied to and been accepted by the FSC Office of Admissions, or have a pending admission decision

Separate audition requirement to be accepted into the major

Sight-reading may be requested at the discretion of the audition panel
