Admission Pathway

Bachelor of Music Education students choose the Choral Track, Instrumental Track, or both

Music candidates must pass an audition on their primary instrument before admission as music majors

Program Requirements

Teaching certification pathway for PreK-12 music students

Music candidates complete a theory placement exam as part of the music-major process

The theory placement exam is not modeled as a performance gateway audition

BME students complete professional education coursework and a P-12 internship

What's The Process

Audition Process

Schedule the music audition by contacting the choral director or music department

Music majors and minors complete an additional interview

Audition Expectations

Three-part skills assessment; no prepared repertoire required

Match brief pitch patterns played on the piano

Sight-sing several short melodies; solfege or numbers are permitted but not required

Sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" in multiple keys from a provided score

No accompanist is needed; pitches are provided during the audition

Auditions are held in the Pop M. Myers Fine Arts building

Arrive at least 10 minutes early and check in at the main lobby

Dress professionally; jeans are not appropriate

Scholarship Info

Ensemble Scholarship

$16,000 per year ($64,000 over four years) available to qualified ensemble performers

Music major not required for scholarship eligibility

Must participate in at least one ensemble per semester

Must maintain good standing and attend all rehearsals and performances

Must maintain minimum 2.5 GPA

Evaluated annually by music faculty

Music Major/Minor Requirements

Private lessons on primary instrument each semester
