Audition Requirements

Repertoire

•Winds: a prepared solo and/or two contrasting etudes, plus all major scales

•Percussion: concert snare drum etude, a 2-mallet keyboard etude/solo, and a timpani etude/solo (or basic timpani technique demonstration with rolls and tuning)

Scales & Technique

•Winds: all major scales

•Percussion: 2-mallet competency may be shown through prepared scale/arpeggio exercises in lieu of an etude/solo

Application Logistics

•Free ENMU university application — no separate program application or portal fee

•Rolling admissions with no set deadline

•Wind players complete a Band Application for membership in the band program

Placement

•Admitted students complete a music theory and aural-skills diagnostic at orientation for course placement only — it does not affect admission

What's The Process

Instrumental Audition

•Audition on your principal instrument using that area's repertoire requirements

•Winds: prepared solo and/or two contrasting etudes, all major scales, and sight-reading

•Percussion: snare drum etude, 2-mallet keyboard etude/solo, timpani etude/solo, and sight-reading on snare and mallets

•Complete a theory diagnostic assessment

DRUM SET (percussion, optional)

•Percussionists may submit a video demonstrating styles such as rock, swing, funk, and bossa nova, plus ensemble performances

•Time permitting, drum set styles may be demonstrated live by request

•Apply for ENMU admission first, then schedule your audition by calling 575.562.2377 or using the online audition form
