Program Recognition
•The BSEd Speech and Theatre teaching field prepares students to teach speech, theatre, debate, forensics, and radio/television in grades 6–12.
•The program is approved by the Kansas State Department of Education and connected to the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
Training
•The program is jointly administered by the theatre department and the School of Leadership, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education.
•Students may elect a concentration in theatre, forensics, or both, creating a teaching focus that matches their goals.
Performance & Productions
•Theatre-focused students learn within a department that produces work throughout the year, giving future teachers a direct connection to stage practice and production culture.
•The teaching field includes both performance-oriented theatre study and speech/forensics coursework.
Degree Flexibility
•The current catalog describes Option A as two teaching fields and Option B as one teaching field with additional SP or TH coursework approved by the coordinator.
•Licensure testing occurs during or before the student-teaching semester, including the Principles of Learning and Teaching exam and content-area exam(s).
