Program Recognition
•The BM Music Education concentration leads to Kansas licensure in PreK–12 instrumental or vocal music through a degree combining musicianship with teacher preparation.
Training
•Students choose the Instrumental Music or Vocal Music track and complete music theory, history, applied study, and professional-education coursework.
•The teacher-education program is jointly administered by Music and the School of Leadership, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education; second-area certification is available.
Performance & Productions
•Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Chamber Choir give future teachers sustained experience as performers and ensemble members.
•Free private lessons and broad ensemble access let students strengthen the principal instrument or voice they will teach.
Professional Development
•The PreK–12 license, methods preparation, and applied performance work connect the degree to classroom teaching in Kansas schools while preserving options for ensemble leadership, community music, and further study.
