Program Recognition
•The General Music Studies profile sits within ESU’s BA Music degree, a broad-based liberal-arts major for students combining music with another field.
Training
•Students complete 38 hours of core and applied music study while working one-on-one with music faculty through free private lessons.
•Applied study remains open to vocal and instrumental areas, and the department offers small classes plus access to band, choir, orchestra, jazz, and chamber music.
Performance & Productions
•Solo recitals, chamber ensembles, and large ensembles let BA students perform alongside music majors and non-majors across the School of Visual + Performing Arts.
•Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, and other ensembles create recurring performance communities beyond the classroom.
Degree Flexibility
•The degree adds a 12-hour Second Field that may be in music or another academic area, making the profile well suited to double majors and individualized combinations.
•The program supports continued study in performance, studio instruction, community music, or related graduate work.
