Scholarship Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Resume (Required)

Bring the Student Resume Form (Checklist of Musical Activities and Participation) to your scholarship audition

Letters of Recommendation (Required)

Bring the department's Form Letter of Recommendation to your audition

Repertoire List (Required)

Prepare the Music Talent Scholarship audition repertoire below for your instrument or voice

Voice: sing two contrasting classical songs from memory that best suit your talents; an accompanist is provided at no charge

Piano: perform at least two compositions from different stylistic periods and be prepared to play your routine of scales, arpeggios and cadences; if prepared, perform at least one of the compositions from memory

Brass: two contrasting movements from a work of your choice, plus at least two major scales and a full-range chromatic scale

Woodwind: two contrasting movements from a work of your choice, plus at least two major scales and a full-range chromatic scale

Brass and woodwind (optional): minor scales are also encouraged in addition to the required major scales

Strings: two contrasting solo pieces or two contrasting movements from a sonata or concerto (with or without accompaniment), plus at least one major scale of your choice (two to three octaves), memorized

Strings (optional): you may also perform the two repertoire pieces from memory if you wish

Percussion: a snare drum piece (concert or rudimental study) and a short two- or four-mallet keyboard percussion piece (xylophone, marimba or vibes) in any style

Percussion (optional): one piece for timpani and/or a demonstration of drum set styles

Sheet Music (Required)

Vocalists: bring proper sheet music for the provided accompanist

Music Talent Scholarships

Awarded based on musical talent, academic progress, leadership, and participation in music activities

Any student may audition regardless of academic major

Requires enrollment and participation in a major music ensemble each semester

Renewable annually pending completion of requirements and re-audition

Scholarship amounts range from $2,000-$3,000 per semester, with increasing amounts each year
