Submission Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Resume

One-page theatrical resume, if requested

Video (If Requested for Acting Applicants)

Maximum 2 minutes

Two contrasting monologues of the applicant's choice

Upload as an unlisted YouTube video and include the link in the email submission

Portfolio (Optional — If Requested for Technical Theater, Design, or Directing Applicants)

Portfolio or website link equivalent to 3 pages (optional)

Include a resume (optional)

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition is required for admission to Theater Studies

After the Emory application is submitted, Theater Studies may request an Arts Supplement

The supplement gives the department input in the admissions process but is not required for admission

The department contacts admitted students with suggested first-year courses and the annual General Interest Meeting date

Departmental Awards

Alice N. Benston Award — graduating senior showing exceptional dedication and intellectual rigor (monetary award)

The Fine Award — junior or senior showing outstanding ability in acting (monetary award)

Leslie M. Taylor Award — outstanding ability in design or technical theater (monetary award)

Friends of Theater at Emory Award — 2-3 awards annually for outstanding artistic achievement and leadership (monetary award)

Martin Foundation Achievement Award — selfless contributions to the theater community (cash prize)

Sudler Prize for Achievement in the Arts — $6,000 prize for outstanding achievement in performing arts

Stipe Society of Creative Scholars — $4,000 academic tuition scholarship

Summer Grants

Friends of Theater at Emory Summer Grants — up to $1,500 for unpaid/under-paid summer theater internships or study programs
