Training
•Bullet: The Piano Teaching Certificate of Achievement trains pianists to teach beginning and intermediate students, combining MUSI 131B Beginning Piano II, MUSI 231A and 231B Intermediate Piano I/II, and MUSI 232 Advanced Piano with MUSI 103A and 103B Theory and Musicianship I/II.
•Bullet: Students choose a 3-unit music-history elective (MUSI 215B Music History and Literature — 1750 to Present, or MUSI 111 Music Appreciation Survey) and a 3-unit business elective (MUSI 284 Commercial Music Business Studies, BUS 120 Business Management, or BUS 124 Entrepreneurship Start-up Planning and Funding).
•Bullet: At least 50 percent of the certificate's courses must be completed at El Camino College; competencies are assessed through examinations, performances, written assignments, and projects, preparing graduates for entry-level work as private piano instructors or with a community music school.
