Portfolio

Submit a portfolio of original compositions for solo, chamber, and large-ensemble settings

Include a score for each work wherever possible, with accompanying recordings (live preferred, MIDI acceptable)

Application Logistics

University application is free — no application fee

A separate School of Music application is required

Submit the School of Music application by March 1 for scholarship consideration

Enrollment

Fall and Spring enrollment available

120 credit hours required for the Music Composition concentration

Placement

Admitted students complete a Theory Placement Interview during their campus visit — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

Music Composition students may transfer up to 90 credits from accredited institutions after EKU reviews them for appropriate articulation. At least 30 credits in the degree must be completed at EKU.

What's The Process

Admission Process

Apply to EKU and select Bachelor of Music as your major

Complete the separate School of Music application

Submit your composition portfolio for review by the composition faculty — the portfolio is the primary admission criterion

Composition majors also audition on their primary instrument or voice using that area's repertoire requirements

Interview with the composition faculty to discuss your creative goals and background

Schedule the audition and portfolio interview on one of the announced audition days; additional dates may be arranged by emailing music@eku.edu
