Audition Requirements

Songs

Requirements

•Two Contrasting Pieces

•Two pieces of contrasting styles (art songs, arias preferred)

•One piece must be in a foreign language

•Both pieces must be performed from memory

Repertoire

•Music suitable for solo/ensemble contests is preferred

•Parts from choral pieces, rock, pop, or country songs are not suitable

Accompaniment

•Accompanist provided by EKU — bring a legible copy of the piano part

•Singers may bring their own accompanist (contact Dr. Waters in advance)

•Recorded accompaniments are not allowed

•No rehearsal time available with the provided accompanist

Application Logistics

•University application is free — no application fee

•Separate School of Music application required

•Submit School of Music application by March 1 for scholarship consideration

Enrollment

•Fall and Spring enrollment available

•120 credit hours required for Music Performance concentration

•Schedule a Theory Placement Interview during your campus visit

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Apply to EKU and select Bachelor of Music as your major

•Complete the School of Music application

•Schedule an audition on one of the announced audition days

•Additional audition dates may be arranged by emailing music@eku.edu

Audition Expectations

•Opportunity for parents and students to ask questions of faculty

•Tour of the Foster Music Building

•Audition with EKU Music faculty

•Observe large ensemble rehearsals

•Several faculty members may be present to adjudicate

•Sight reading exercises administered during audition

•Tonal memory exercises administered during audition

Scholarship Info

Scholarship Consideration

•Apply and audition by March 1 for scholarship consideration

•Mark scholarship interest on the School of Music application

•First round of scholarship results released March 15

•Final round of scholarship results released by June 1

•Awards may be received any time between those dates
