Good to Know

Admission

Audition on the primary instrument or voice determines admission to the music major and scholarship eligibility

This degree also requires admission into the EWU School of Education (a separate teacher-preparation admission completed during enrollment)

Minimum grade of C required in all music courses

Program Requirements

Junior recital required; all recital requirements must be completed before starting Education courses and student teaching

Full-time student teaching placement required

Piano proficiency exam required (placement exam before classes begin)

Convocation attendance required

Major ensemble enrollment required each quarter (except during the student-teaching quarter)

Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement exam at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

EWU's current Spokane Falls Community College AFA Music articulation agreement (active through June 2027) explicitly names EWU's Bachelor of Music Education (BME) as one of three covered destination degrees (BM, BME, or BA in Music). Transfer students meet with the Music Program Director to map music courses and remaining degree requirements.

20-minute performance audition on your primary instrument or voice (the admission requirement for all music majors)

Auditions are open year-round

Schedule an in-person audition on campus or submit a video

Be prepared to share about yourself and why you wish to pursue a music degree
