Admission

Audition on the primary instrument or voice determines both admission to the music major and scholarship eligibility

No separate composition portfolio is listed in the published admission requirements; prospective composers may share works with the composition faculty

Minimum grade of C required in all music courses

Program Requirements

Junior recital and senior recital required

Piano proficiency exam required (placement exam before classes begin)

Convocation attendance required (30 concerts per academic year)

Major ensemble enrollment required each quarter

Admitted students take a music theory and aural-skills placement exam at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

EWU lists a current Spokane Falls Community College AFA Music articulation agreement that includes BM Music Composition. Transfer students meet with the Music Program Director to map music courses and remaining degree requirements.

20-minute performance audition on your primary instrument or voice (the admission requirement for all music majors)

Auditions are open year-round

Schedule an in-person audition on campus or submit a video
