•The Musical Theatre concentration combines acting, singing, and musical-theatre performance within Eastern's BA Theatre

•Faculty are working theatre professionals who mentor students as theatre-makers, creators, and activists

•Students examine the intersection of Christian faith and artistic practice and complete a culminating theatre-maker manifesto

Performance & Productions

•Students may perform in Mainstage Productions, smaller Open Stage projects, the annual 10-Minute Playwriting Festival, cabarets, presentations, and showcases

•Scholarship auditions assess a memorized Broadway-style song and monologue in a three-minute package

Scholarship Audition Requirements

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Songs

Song Selection

•Prepare 16-32 measures of a song, preferably from a Broadway musical

Accompaniment

•Must be accompanied; no a cappella

•Bring your own accompanist or a pre-recorded accompaniment track with proper amplification

•Bring a Bluetooth speaker if playing music from your phone

Monologues

One Monologue

•Should showcase your strengths and range

•Total audition time for song and monologue not to exceed 3 minutes (including slate)

•Slate: state your first and last name, piece title, and title of show

•Have all pieces fully memorized

Additional Materials

Headshot (Required)

•A recent photo is acceptable if you don't have a professional headshot

Resume (Required)

•List all theatre and acting experience

•All experience levels welcome

•Scholarship consideration is optional and does not control admission to the theatre major

•Schedule an in-person or virtual scholarship interview any time after starting your Eastern application

•Musical Theatre applicants audition during the scholarship interview

Audition Expectations

•In-person scholarship interviews/auditions are held on campus

•Virtual interviews may be arranged on alternative dates

•One full-tuition scholarship available

•Up to ten $25,000 scholarships

•Awarded based on merit

•Renewable for four years with minimum 2.7 GPA

•Fine & Performing Arts Scholarship replaces other merit-based scholarships
