Application Logistics
•Bullet: Submit the EMU university application prior to auditioning
•Bullet: Submit the School of Music & Dance undergraduate music application at least seven days before the selected audition date
•Bullet: Provide email addresses for two recommenders before starting the application
•Bullet: Complete the entrance audition by March 1 for priority scholarship consideration
Placement Exams (Post-Admission)
•Bullet: All incoming music students take a music theory exam on audition days — for course placement only, not admission
•Bullet: Piano placement exam optional for students with two to four years of keyboard experience — for course placement only
•Bullet: Participation in a performance ensemble is required in every music degree program
Secondary Instrument Audition
•Bullet: Keyboard and guitar principals must also be accepted on a secondary band or orchestra instrument at a level sufficient for the major-ensemble requirement (Wind Symphony or Symphonic Band for winds and percussion; Symphony Orchestra for strings)
Teacher Certification
•Bullet: The degree path qualifies graduates for a Michigan Department of Education Secondary Standard Certificate with a K-12 music endorsement
•Bullet: Certification follows College of Education admission and program requirements
