Audition Requirements

Songs

TWO SONGS OR ARIAS, FROM MEMORY

•ONE SONG from the 20th or 21st Century in English

-Musical Theater is permitted

•ONE SONG in a foreign language (French, German, or Italian)

•Selections should be of different styles and periods

•Must be professionally coached (judged on diction and style)

Additional Elements (May Be Requested at Live Audition)

•Vocal exercises

•Singing without accompaniment

•Sight singing

Additional Materials

Audition Portfolio

•Submit pre-recorded video performances meeting the audition guidelines

•No cuts or edits permitted in recordings

•Upload media to a cloud platform (YouTube, Vimeo, iCloud, or Google Drive)

•Compile all media links into a single portfolio document

•Submit via the Duquesne Applicant Portal at least 1 week before audition date

•Optional: include supplemental recordings, ensemble performances, or compositions

Musicianship Placement Exam

•Online diagnostic exam, approximately 1 hour

•No preparation required

•Complete at home before or by audition day

•Live vocal audition in front of faculty evaluators

•Musicianship Placement Exam (online, ~1 hour, no preparation needed)

•Personalized schedule provided approximately 1 week before audition
