Repertoire
•Prepare repertoire appropriate to your primary brass instrument (trumpet, french horn, tenor or bass trombone, euphonium, or tuba)
•Trumpet: two contrasting (lyrical/technical) etudes (Voxman, Charlier, Arban, etc.); required solo Haydn Concerto in E-flat, Mvt. 1 exposition (additional solo optional)
•French Horn: at least two solo works (e.g. Mozart Horn Concerto No. 1 or 3, Haydn No. 2, Beethoven Sonata)
•Trombone (tenor): two contrasting solos or etudes (solos similar to Guilmant Morceau Symphonique, Barat Andante and Allegro)
•Trombone (bass): two contrasting solos or etudes (solos similar to Sachse Concertino, Galliard Sonatas)
•Euphonium: at least two solo works (e.g. Guilmant Morceau Symphonique, Barat Andante et Allegro)
•Tuba: two contrasting selections (e.g. Bordogni or Blazhevich etudes, Bach/Bell Air and Bouree, Persichetti Serenade No. 12)
Scales & Technique
•French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba: major scales
•Trombone: major and minor scales, two octaves, up to 5 sharps or 5 flats
Sight-Reading
•Sight-reading is required for trumpet and may be requested for other brass instruments
Audition Portfolio
•Submit pre-recorded video performances meeting the audition guidelines for your primary instrument
•No cuts or edits permitted in recordings
•Upload media to a cloud platform (YouTube, Vimeo, iCloud, or Google Drive) and compile links into a single portfolio document
•Submit via the Duquesne Applicant Portal at least 1 week before your audition date
•Optional: include supplemental recordings or accolades
Musicianship Placement Exam
•Online diagnostic exam, approximately 1 hour, no preparation required
•For course placement only
•Complete at home before or by audition day
