Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Monologues

Two Contrasting Monologues

•In-person auditions: two contrasting monologues, no more than 2 minutes total

•A contemporary, realistic monologue is strongly recommended

•If possible, the second monologue may come from Shakespeare

•Acceptd/video submission: one classical pre-1900 and one contemporary post-1900 monologue, up to 90 seconds each

•Acceptd/video monologues should total no more than 3 minutes

Material Selection

•Use published plays

•Do not use film scripts, television scripts, or musicals

Additional Materials

Resume

•Required: upload or bring a resume of theatre experience

Headshot

•Optional: bring or upload a current headshot if available; Acceptd lists it as an upload

Application Logistics

•Apply for admission to Drake University before BFA admission can be considered

•University application and audition or portfolio review must both be completed for Fine Arts Scholarship consideration

•Submit through Acceptd if using the paid Acceptd portal

•Drake also offers a free audition registration/submission portal

Admission Pathway

•Preparing the Musical Theatre audition package allows consideration for both Acting and Musical Theatre

What's The Process

Audition Process

•No pre-screening process; submitted materials or the live audition are the audition

•On-campus auditions and National Unified Theatre Auditions are offered when the cycle schedule is published

•Current theatre audition dates are not yet published; confirm the active schedule through Drake Theatre or the audition portal

Audition Expectations

•In-person auditions are strongly encouraged when possible

•On-campus auditions take place at Harmon Fine Arts Center

•Virtual submissions are accepted through Drake's free audition portal or Acceptd

•Acceptd upload packages may be submitted as one continuous video or separate videos, depending on program needs

Scholarship Info

Fine Arts Scholarships

•Fine Arts Scholarships are awarded selectively to BFA Theatre majors

•Awards are renewable for four years if renewal criteria are maintained

Eligibility

•Students must complete both the university application and the audition or portfolio review to be considered

•Not all accepted students receive a scholarship; awards are selective
