Monologues

Acting Scholarship Audition

Two Contrasting Monologues from Published Plays, 40-60 Sec Each

One dramatic monologue

One humorous monologue

Must be thoroughly memorized

An armless chair will be provided

Letters of Recommendation

Include at least one email reference from a high school theatre arts teacher or non-related individual familiar with your creative work and potential

Portfolio

Include 8-10 examples of design/tech work

Photos or drawings of scenery, lighting, costume, makeup, or props

Stage manager's promptbook may be included

Visual artwork may be included

Portfolio can be presented via hard copy or slide show; if using a slide show, bring the presentation on a USB thumb drive

Application Logistics

Apply for admission to Del Mar College via ApplyTexas and declare Drama as your major before accepting a Drama scholarship

Submit the online Drama Scholarship Application; applications open February 22, 2027 and close April 23, 2027

New-student applications require one email reference from a high school theatre arts teacher or non-related theatre professional familiar with your creative work and potential

Drama faculty will contact applicants to arrange an on-campus audition and interview after the online application is received

Important Notes

Open to new and continuing Drama majors enrolled full-time or part-time

Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Actively participate in Drama productions and events as cast or crew

Enroll in a Drama practicum course each semester

Scholarships cover the academic year beginning in Fall 2027; Spring renewal is based on faculty review and scholarship requirements

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition required for program admission (open-admission community college)

Scholarship auditions and interviews will be held on the Heritage Campus in Spring 2027

Acting: prepare two contrasting monologues from published plays—one dramatic and one humorous—approximately one minute each; monologues must be thoroughly memorized

An armless chair will be provided; no props

Design/Tech: present a portfolio of 8-10 examples of design, technical, or other creative work; the presentation may be hard copy or a slide show

Each audition or portfolio presentation is followed by an interview with Drama faculty
