Monologues

Acting Scholarship Audition

TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES from published plays, 40-60 sec each

•ONE DRAMATIC monologue

•ONE HUMOROUS monologue

•Must be thoroughly memorized

•An armless chair will be provided

•No props

Additional Materials

Design/Tech Scholarship Portfolio

•Present 8-10 examples of design/tech work

•Photos or drawings of scenery, lighting, costume, makeup, or props

•Stage manager's promptbook may be included

•Visual artwork may be included

•Portfolio can be presented via hard copy or slide show

-If using a slide show, bring presentation on a USB thumb drive

Application Steps

•Apply for admission to Del Mar College via ApplyTexas

•Declare Drama as your major

•Submit the online Scholarship Application

•Include at least one email reference from a high school theatre arts teacher or individual familiar with your creative work

•Contact the department to arrange an on-campus audition/interview

Enrollment

•Open admission community college

•Scholarships awarded for the academic year beginning in the Fall semester

•Must be enrolled full-time (12 hours/semester) while receiving scholarship

What's The Process

Scholarship Audition

•No audition required for program admission (open admission community college)

•Scholarship auditions and interviews held on Heritage Campus in April

•Two scholarship tracks: Acting (monologue audition) or Design/Tech (portfolio review)

•Each audition or portfolio presentation is followed by an interview with Drama faculty

Drama Scholarship

•Awards typically cover a substantial portion of full-time (12 hours) in-district tuition

•Amounts vary depending on funding available at time of award

•Must be a declared Drama major enrolled full-time

•Must participate in Drama productions and events (cast or crew)

•Must maintain minimum GPA

•Awarded per semester with Spring renewal based on faculty review
