Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Song Package

Sing one memorized verse from a song a cappella

Song may be from any genre, any time period, and in any language

Treat the song as an acting challenge

A trained singing voice is not required for admission

Monologues

Monologue Package

Prepare one memorized monologue of your choosing or choose from Dawson's provided monologue list

If choosing your own piece, it must come from a published play with a professional production history

Speeches from TV shows or films are not appropriate

Before the speech, state the character, play, and author

Original Movement Piece, 30 Sec

Prepare one original creative performance movement piece

Piece should showcase your physicality and imagination

Application Logistics

Apply through the Dawson College Application System; there is no separate artistic-application portal

Professional Theatre applicants who meet College entrance requirements are referred to the program for an audition appointment

Important Notes

Dawson lists a CAD 30 non-refundable general application fee for admission applications

Dawson has not published Professional Theatre audition dates or an application deadline for the next Fall entry cycle

What's The Process

Audition Process

Apply to Dawson College first; applicants who meet College entrance requirements are referred to the Professional Theatre program

Dawson then arranges an in-person audition appointment at the College

Audition Expectations

Prepare and memorize one monologue, one song verse, and one original movement piece

Total audition package must be no longer than 5 minutes

The audition includes a short interview with a panel of Professional Theatre teachers
