Training
•Liberal arts theatre major combines theory and practice in theatrical performance, creative problem solving, and collaboration
•10-course A.B. major includes foundations of theatre-making or playwriting, acting/directing, stage design, theatre history, dramatic literature, and upper-level electives
•Students can shape elective work across acting, directing, design, dramaturgy, playwriting, theatre history, and arts leadership
•Work-study positions in scenic construction and arts administration provide paid production and management experience
•Internship and apprenticeship list connects students with theatre opportunities around the country
•Regional theatre artist workshops and guest visits throughout the year
Performance & Productions
•Four main productions per year: one mainstage and one second-stage production each semester
•Production opportunities are open to all interested students, including backstage and acting roles
•Additional performance opportunities include the One Acts and Summit New Play Festival
•Award-winning productions recognized by the Metrolina Theatre Association and Creative Loafing magazine

•Three theatre spaces with modern lighting and advanced sound systems, including Duke Family Performance Hall and Barber Theatre
Degree Flexibility
•Majors complete one THE 050 Production Experience on a departmental production
•Production experience requires at least 35 backstage hours in an approved role other than actor, director, playwright, or designer
•Honors option adds THE 498 and THE 499 thesis work for eligible majors
