PRODUCTIONS & PERFORMANCE

Four main productions per year — two mainstage in the 600-seat Duke Family Performance Hall and two in the intimate Barber Theatre
Additional performance opportunities include the One Acts (spring) and the Summit New Play Festival
Award-winning productions recognized by the Metrolina Theatre Association and Creative Loafing magazine

TRAINING & OPPORTUNITIES

Liberal arts approach combining theory and practice across acting, directing, design, playwriting, and dramaturgy
Capstone experience through advanced coursework in directing, acting, design, or history/theory
Work-study positions in scenic construction and arts administration
Internship and apprenticeship connections with theatres across the country
Regional theatre artist workshops and guest visits throughout the year

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Majors complete backstage work on at least 2 department productions (minimum 50 hours per show)
At least one assignment must be in stage management
At least one must be completed by the end of junior year

SLOAN PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

$30,000 per year, renewable for four years
Awarded to two students in each first-year class

Recipients are not required to major in dance, music, or theatre

RUPERT T. BARBER SCHOLARSHIP

$10,000 per year, renewable for remaining three years
Awarded to one first-year student demonstrating exceptional talent and passion for theatre
Recipients must maintain minimum GPA, make expected degree progress, and remain actively engaged in theatre
Recipients are not required to declare a theatre major
