Program Recognition
•CWRU's Department of Dance became an autonomous department in 2011, traces its modern-dance roots to the 1950s, and is a founding member of the National Dance Association.
•Partners with the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland Institute of Art, and DanceCleveland on collaborative projects.
Training
•BA in Dance requires 41 credit hours, with core study in Modern/Contemporary Technique, Ballet Technique, Dance History, and Production (crew).
•Electives chosen by advisement span Dance Science/Wellness, Dance in Culture, Production Resources, Pedagogy, and Choreography.
Performance & Productions
•The 60+ member Mather Dance Collective (MaDaCol) performs each fall and spring, with annual departmental concerts through the Mather Dance Series (established 1979).
Facilities
•Mather Dance Center, the department's home on Bellflower Road, was dedicated in 1908 as the first gymnasium for the College for Women.
