Entrance Examinations
•Students are admitted to Hunter College via the CUNY Application, then take three exams before declaring the music major
•Music notation, rudimentary theory, and basic aural & keyboard skills — prerequisite to MUSTH 220 (Music Theory 1)
•Elementary music history and literature — prerequisite to MUSHL 205 (Music History 1)
•Performance audition on an instrument or voice — prerequisite to MUSPF 401 (Private Instruction)
•Students whose performance skills fall below NYSSMA level 2 must take introductory voice or piano courses, or private lessons at their own expense, then repeat the audition
•Register for the audition and entrance exams via the Music Department Audition and Entrance Exam Registration Form
•Consult the Undergraduate Adviser as early as possible to plan the exams and any prerequisite courses
Audition Expectations
•Keyboard and aural skills, including sight-singing, are tested during the audition
•Memorization is recommended but not required
