Complete keyboard and aural tests, including sight-singing and ear training, after the written entrance exams.

Apply to Hunter through CUNY first.

Prior college music coursework is evaluated through advanced placement tests for use toward the major.

Transfer Pathway

Music transfer students can use placement exams to apply music theory, history, and musicianship credit toward the major, while performance credits normally transfer without examination. Hunter Promise also lists Music as an approved Arts & Sciences transfer major with no special entry requirements.

What's The Process

After admission to Hunter, take written entrance exams in theory, aural and keyboard skills, and music history.

Complete an in-person performance evaluation after the written exams.

Students who need more preparation may complete pre-major coursework and repeat the exams.
