Application Logistics

Apply to Hunter College via the CUNY Application

No separate dance program application required

Declare the Dance major after passing the gateway placement audition

Enrollment

Must register in at least one dance technique course every semester to remain in good standing

Annual advising meetings with dance advisers required for major planning

C grade or better required in all courses for the major

Transfer Pathway

Hunter Promise lists Dance as an approved Arts & Sciences transfer major with no special entry requirements. After admission, students declare the BA Dance major by placing into Ballet 1 or Contemporary Dance 1 or higher through the department's placement audition.

What's The Process

Placement Audition

After enrollment at Hunter College, students complete a placement audition to enter the dance program

Placement determines entry level in technique courses (Contemporary Dance Technique 1, Ballet 1, or higher)

Open to all enrolled Hunter students — no audition required for admission to the college

Students who do not place into level 1 technique must first take DAN 10100 (Fundamentals of Contemporary Dance Technique) and/or DAN 10500 (Fundamentals of Ballet)
