TRAINING
•42-credit curriculum spanning technique, creative work, dance studies, and electives
•Styles include contemporary dance, ballet, global dance, hip-hop, improvisation, and composition
•Required performances in minimum two student-choreographed pieces during studies
•Anatomy and Kinesiology for Dancers course
•Composition sequence leading to Dance Workshop and full Production experience
•Repertory courses and lecture/demonstration touring group

APPLICATION LOGISTICS
•Apply to Hunter College via the CUNY Application
•No separate dance program application required
•Declare the Dance major after passing the gateway placement audition
ENROLLMENT
•Students who do not place into level 1 technique must first take DAN 10100 (Fundamentals of Contemporary Dance Technique) and/or DAN 10500 (Fundamentals of Ballet)
•Annual advising meetings with dance advisers required for major planning
•No audition required for admission to Hunter College
•After enrollment, students complete a placement audition to enter DAN 21500 (Ballet 1) or DAN 21000 (Contemporary Dance Technique 1) or higher
•Placement determines entry level in technique courses — open to all enrolled Hunter students
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
•Must register in at least one dance technique course every semester to remain in good standing
•C grade or better required in all courses for the major
