Bass — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform two pieces of varying styles, preferably including one jazz-based selection (rock, R&B, funk, or classical also accepted)
•Perform a 30-second style demonstration in two of: jazz, walking bass, funk, tapping, R&B, or rock
•Perform one-octave arpeggios on Maj7, dominant 7, minor 7, minor 7 flat 5, and fully diminished seventh chords
•Perform all seven Greek modes as one-octave scales, in any key
Brass — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform two solo pieces of contrasting styles (etudes or a concerto movement) — one melodic/lyrical, one technical; jazz, pop, alternative, or classical styles accepted
•Perform three two-octave quarter-note scales and arpeggios at quarter note = 80
•Perform a full-range chromatic scale in eighth notes at quarter note = 120
Cello — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform two pieces of varying styles — one melodic/lyrical, one technical; jazz, pop, alternative, or classical styles accepted
•Perform one etude from Schroder, Lee, Duport, Popper, or Piatti (a transcription of a jazz or pop/alternative solo may substitute)
•Perform one major and one minor three-octave scale (one slow, one fast) and one major and one minor three-octave arpeggio (both slow)
Drum Kit — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform two styles from: Swing/Bebop, Funk/Rock, Afro-Cuban (mambo, Mozambique), Brazilian (bossa nova, samba), or Jazz waltz
•Demonstrate a 4/4 or 3/4 groove with brushes
•Perform a medium-tempo solo piece (76-120 bpm) that introduces a theme, develops or improvises on it, and returns to a clear, definite ending
Electronic Digital Instrument (Edi) — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform one live piece (cannot be pre-recorded), 3-5 minutes long, in any style that demonstrates skill and musicianship
•Demonstrate abilities such as live effects processing, live looping, control-surface facility (Ableton Push, Novation Launchpad, APC 40), iPhone/iPad sound sources (GarageBand for iOS, Animoog, Synth One, Filtatron), and/or finger drumming or live synth playing
Guitar — Repertoire & Technique
•Choose two selections: a jazz chord-and-melody arrangement, a single-melodic-line solo transcription (jazz/fusion/pop/rock), a classical solo piece (Bach, Sor, Carcassi, Brouwer, or comparable), or a fingerstyle piece in alternate or standard tuning
•Demonstrate Maj7, 7, min7, min7(b5), dim7, min6, 13, 9, and min9 chords in root-6 and root-5 positions, then perform two-octave major scales in three positions, all seven Greek modes (one position each), and two-octave seventh-chord arpeggios (Major seventh, seventh, minor seventh, minor seventh flat five, diminished seventh)
Percussion — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform a concert-style snare drum solo (Anthony Cirone "Portraits in Rhythm" or similar)
•Perform a rudimental-style snare drum solo — no marching-band solos (John S. Pratt "14 Modern Contest Solos" or, for shorter solos, three Charley Wilcoxon "All-American Drummer" solos played in succession at one tempo)
•Optional: a short 2- or 4-mallet solo (marimba, vibes, or xylophone) and/or a brief Latin percussion demonstration (congas, timbales, bongo, etc.)
Piano/Keyboard — Repertoire & Technique
•Prepare and perform two pieces of contrasting styles (Jazz, Latin, Pop/Rock/R&B, or Classical) — one slower and expressive, one faster and technical; an original composition is encouraged but not required
•Demonstrate major scales in B, C, Db, and D — two octaves, hands together, eighth notes at quarter note = 80
Violin/Viola — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform the solo parts of two selections, with or without accompaniment: one incorporating improvisation from rock, jazz, country, pop, or world music, and one classical piece from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, or Contemporary idioms
Woodwind — Repertoire & Technique
•Perform two solo pieces of contrasting styles (etudes or a concerto movement) — one melodic/lyrical, one technical; jazz, pop, alternative, or classical styles accepted
•Perform three two-octave quarter-note scales and arpeggios at quarter note = 80
