After admission, attend New Student Orientation to meet music faculty and obtain assessment dates

Ensemble Placement and the Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Assessment take place the week before classes begin

Placement Exams

Admitted students complete placement exams in music theory, musicianship, and piano for course placement only — they do not affect admission

Audition Process

No acceptance audition is required for admission — the Department of Music is an unimpacted department

Admission is based on university acceptance through Cal State Apply

A placement audition is completed after enrollment to assign each student a studio instructor and applied level

Incoming students should be proficient in the 12 major and minor scales on their primary instrument
